About Us

Nisarga Foundation

Nisarga is dedicated to the socio-economic empowerment of indigenous and marginalized communities.

We promote the holistic development of tribal and marginalised communities. We work across various development areas including health and nutrition, education, women empowerment, community development, environment, tribal art and culture and legal literacy. We also implement various programmes in collaboration with government departments and development organisations at taluk and district levels, including Sarva Sikshana Abhiyan (SSA), National Child Labour Project (NCLP) and Integrated Tribal Development Program (ITDP). For us, nurturing indigenous communities goes hand-in-hand with protecting the surrounding nature, by promoting sustainable farming and preserving the local biodiversity.

State level workshop on "Role of Forests as SPSN for Forest Dependent Communities

We had a great time at the State level workshop on "Role of Forests as Social protection and Safety Nets(SPSN) for Forest Dependent Communities" held on 14-05-2024 at Bangalore! Lot more to work on FRA-2006 implementation, advocacy and lobby. The instructor Mr. Somnath Bandopadya and Mr.Arun Dikshit were very knowledgeable and engaging, and the NGO's, Adivasi participants were all really friendly and supportive. We Thank Foundation for Ecological Security (FES) for organising the workshop. — at Ashraya International Hotel.

Summer camp for Adivasi Chiguru Shale children

Nisarga Foundation organized summer camp for Adivasi Chiguru shale children from 22nd April to 24th April 2024 at Nisarga campus. Various cultural activities and sports activities were held. More than 80 children participated in the summer camp and enjoyed it.

Gramasabha at Lakshmipura Hadi

As a part of Susthira Abhivrudhi program, Gramasabha was held at Lakshmipura Hadi on 17-04-2024. Mrs. Jyothi, field worker oriented on the importance of Gramasabha, FRC committee is formed, discussed on basic facilities and documents.

Gramasaba at Hosalli Hadi

Hosalli Hadi Gramasabh was held on 16-04-2024, Mrs. Nirmala, field worker co-ordinated the meeting. Mr. Rajappa, Hadi leader presided the meeting and discussed to submit the application to GP and TP to get the hadi map details about the land.

Adivasi Susthira Abhivrudhi Yojane

Adivasi Susthira Abhivruddi Yojana is a right based, community based project funded by Azim Premji Philanthropic Initiatives(APPI), Bangalore. The main aim of the project is to achieve 100% implementation of Forest Rights Act-2006, (Individual and Community rights) in 20 Hadis and make tribal people sustainable with the natural resources. To enable the tribals to understand their rights with awareness on Govt facilities, Schemes, Legal training, promoting sustainable harvest, enabling Grama Sabha and Forest Rights committee to function regularly, Capacity building of Grama Sabha, formation of Taluk Grama Sabha Vedike, followup and meeting with SDLC, DLC committee for obtaining IFR and CFR.

Addressing malnutrition in tribal children

To address malnutrition amongst tribal communities, N.F. launched the Spirulina supplement Nutrition Programme in 2014, supported by Mission Inde, France. We supplement the “home diet” of the target population with Spirulina nutritional capsules, which helps boost the growth of malnourished children and provides vital nutrients to pregnant women and lactating mothers. Dr Gerry Pais, Mysore, has been guiding and monitoring the SIRULINA programme. The programme has proven to be extremely beneficial in the last seven years and has been appreciated even by CFTRI (The Central Government Food and Research Institute), Mysore.

Nisarga Hadi Makkala Chiguru Shale

This school mainly creates an educational environment that provides value-based, quality education available and accessible to tribal society. Every human beings main urge is to think, learn, and act and express oneself freely and creatively. Keeping these objectives in mind Nisarga has stepped ahead in catering to the needs of Adivasi children and aimed at providing them a place of transformation through value-based education in collaboration with local Panchayath and Education Dept. Nisarga Foundation has voluntarily started the Nisarga Tribal children's school to cater to the educational needs of tribal children and promote tribal culture. Nisarga Tribal Children's school is presently functioning in 4 tribal hamlets(Hadi) were 4 tribal volunteer teachers are educating the children (Masthigudi A Hadi, Masthigudi B Hadi, Annuru Hadi, Annuru chikkere Hadi). From 4 tribal hamlet 87 children are enrolled in our School and regularly attending the classes in the evening 5pm to 6.30pm. School functions on all working days. In this school we are providing education materials and cultural events support and small snacks for the children. We thank Kluber Lubrication, Bangalore for supporting Chiguru shale.
